Make Time for Your Loved Ones

Make Time for Your Loved Ones

Before the web of selfishness tightens around you...

Ayesha's Longing

“Thank God you’re here! I’ve been waiting for you,” Ayesha said, her worried face lighting up as she saw Urooba.

“Is everything alright?” Urooba asked.

“Nothing is alright,” Ayesha replied, about to say more when Urooba’s phone rang. “Excuse me,” she said, stepping out to take the call. When she returned, she hurriedly said, “Sorry, Ayesha! I have an urgent task to attend to. I’ll call you when I’m free.” With that, she left, while Ayesha watched her go with longing eyes, desperately needing the attention and guidance of her childhood friend.

Farhan’s Neglect

“Mom, you’re taking your medicine on time, right?” Farhan paused for a moment while leaving.

His mother, who had endured breathing difficulties all night, thinking she would tell her son in the morning and visit the doctor, never got the chance. Before she could speak, Farhan glanced at his wristwatch, gave his mother a fleeting look, and said, “Alright, Mom, I’m leaving. I’m getting late.” He walked out of the room.

Naomi’s Unheard Plea

“Listen, Samad! Naomi wants to talk to you,” his wife said.

Without taking his eyes off the TV screen, Samad replied carelessly, “Does he need more pocket money or want to go on a picnic with friends?”

“No, it’s nothing like that. If it were, he would’ve told me first. I feel it’s something else,” his wife insisted.

Samad snapped, “Alright, alright! Send him to me, but let me watch the match in peace.” And so, the matter was brushed aside.

That same week, a call from Naomi’s school left the entire household in shock. They learned that Naomi had been assaulted by some boys while leaving school and was taken to the hospital. When Naomi regained consciousness, he revealed that some boys in his class smoked during the teacher’s absence. When he reported them to the teacher, they threatened him repeatedly. Naomi had been trying to tell his father, but his father never had the time to listen.

The Harsh Reality of Modern Life

These are just small glimpses of the emotional wounds caused by the indifference and neglect of loved ones in our daily lives. In today’s technology-driven era, human values and ways of thinking have completely transformed. No one has time for their loved ones, nor the patience to listen to anyone, even for a few moments.

Every person now prioritizes their own self. The cruel turn of time has made people believe only in tangible realities, dismissing emotions and sentiments. Sacrificing one’s own happiness for the sake of others is now seen as sheer foolishness. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of this era is that it has gifted humanity with the “I,” weaving a web of selfishness and materialism around them. Life now begins and ends with “me.”

Everyone walks around with the necklace of “I” around their necks, wandering proudly through the glittering streets of ego. This is why we fail to see the plight of our loved ones. We never try to understand the storms of pain and sorrow hidden within them. They wait, hoping that someone they love will listen to them sincerely, strengthen their broken spirits with attention and love, and wipe away their tears with the warmth of their presence.

A Reminder

Remember:

The long journey of life cannot be traveled alone. The affliction of loneliness weakens and incapacitates us. At every step, we need the support of our loved ones, and this is only possible when we value them, make time for them, and stand by them in their joys and sorrows.

It’s not too late. If you wish, you can put aside the few inches of the screen in your hands—the mobile phone—and spend beautiful, meaningful moments with your family.
